In 2021, The Skinflicks Revealed that they don't like hipsters - now they explain why!
The current single "Gentrified For Your Sins" heralds a new chapter in the band's work. The song isn't just a new banger by the four guys from Luxembourg, it also once again showcases their penchant for cynical lyrics full of biting humor and bitter realism.
In every major city, you're now finding the poorest being evicted from their perceived hotspots to make way for overrated pop-up stores and overpriced coffee shops where the fifth-generation family business used to stand. Bohemian wannabes are taking over the supposedly seedy neighborhood, causing rental and living costs to skyrocket until the original residents who worked hard to build the neighborhood can no longer afford to live there at all. The last remnant of working-class culture is thus dealt the coup de grace.
Never shying away from uncomfortable social criticism, The Skinflicks pack the uncomfortable truths behind this mechanism into a lyrically bitter commentary full of sharp-tongued cynicism.
But that's not all: Another, exclusive extra treat awaits the loyal followers on the B-side of the single: "New Media Men", another new song, which is stylistically reminiscent of the English street punk of the 80s. Lyrically, this song extends social criticism to the world of the media, which today manipulates the fortunes and thoughts of the masses even more than ever before.
All in all, “Gentrified For Your Sins” is another must-have Skinflicks release: two great tracks that rock and plenty of uncomfortable lyrics to mentally challenge the willing listener.
